What is it?
A tongue of granite over the Karakoram
Marsur Rock is a knife-edge natural rock formation that stretches roughly 38 feet in length and rises about 25 feet into the air, tapering from a 15-foot base to a narrow 2.5-foot tip. Composed of granite and gneiss and anchored deep into the mountainside, it sits at around 3,737 metres (12,260 feet) above sea level.
Its tongue-like profile and sheer drop draw constant comparisons to Norway’s Trolltunga — but here you will find the Karakoram, far fewer crowds, and a deeper silence. Discovered by local photographers around 2017, it has become one of Skardu’s most sought-after viewpoints.

Getting there
How to reach Marsur Rock from Skardu
A short drive to Hussainabad, then a steep hike up to the ledge.
Skardu → Hussainabad by road
From Skardu city, head toward Hussainabad village — a drive of roughly 20 to 30 minutes by private taxi, shared van or jeep. A zigzag track then climbs toward the trailhead near a small bridge over a mountain stream.
Hussainabad → the ledge on foot
Cross the bridge and follow the path alongside the stream before the route climbs steeply through rocky, open terrain to the ledge. Mobile signal disappears for several hours, so share your plan before you set off.

The Marsur Rock trek
The hike is short in distance but demanding in gradient. Most trekkers reach the ledge in around 2 to 3 hours, with a full round trip of roughly 4 hours including time to rest and photograph at the top. About an hour in you reach a fork — take the steeper second trail and keep to the left as the terrain opens toward the rock.
